Using Adhesive

Step 1

Wall surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust and grease. Wipe the wall surface with a solvent to assure all grease, dust and dirt are removed. Make sure that the cleaning solvent used will not damage the finish on the wall surface.

Step 2

Using the correct plans and layout guides measure and mark the specified height of the top or the bottom of the rub rail from the floor. Using a chalk line connect the marks on the wall, make sure that the chalk line is level.

Step 3

If required, cut rub rail to required length, ensuring that all cuts are square and burr free.

Step 4

Apply adhesive to the wall along the marked location, make sure to maintain a 1/4” clearance from the top and bottom of the rub rail. Spread the mastic evenly along the entire area, use of a notched trowel is recommended.

Step 5

Beginning at one end of the run begin installing the rub rail, aligning either the top or the bottom with the chalk line. Continue this process along the entire length of the rub rail, then using the palm of your hand or a roller go back along the entire length of the rub rail applying firm pressure in order to ensure a good bond. Clean up any mastic leakage along the run immediately with soap and water. Be sure to use an acceptable vinyl adhesive, such as liquid nails, or as supplied by Wallprotex, follow the usage and safety instructions on the adhesive.
