Overview

Clear corner guards have been the go-to product in wall protection for wall-papered walls for a long time. Clear corner guards allow the pattern of the wall paper to be seen through the clear plastic, blending into the wall while protecting the corner and the edge of wall paper. Clear corner guards are made out of polycarbonate plastic material.

Polycarbonate is used in many applications where a clear and strong plastic is required. For example, polycarbonate is used in safety glasses, airplane cockpit windows, and skylight roof windows. A result of the clarity of the material is a shiny or glossy finish, when a colorant is added to the product. Due to the versatility of the clear material, maintenance professionals often choose to buy these products and have them in stock for use whenever a need arises.

Clear corner guards are attached to the wall via holes and screws or self stick tape. Both methods of attaching clear corner guards to the wall have drawbacks. Self stick tape, while clear, still has imperfect surfaces that show through the clear corner guard. Areas of the wall that are uneven and have partial contact with the tape will show through. Screwing the clear corner guard into the wall is a great option, but the screws are visible, which, on a light color wall, can be undesirable.

Material: Polycarbonate (PC)  is among the most impact resistant plastics. PC is used in safety glasses, bullet proof riot gear, and CDs. As a corner guard, this product will not shatter upon impact.

Color: Polycarbonate can be a clear plastic material, and the polycarbonate corner guard is most often sold as clear, but Wallprotex also offers a range of colored polycarbonate corner guards.

Installation: Polycarbonate corner guards can be ordered with pre-drilled holes and screws, self-stick tape, or plain. A plain corner guard can be installed using construction adhesive such as Liquid Nails.

Fabrication: Cutting down polycarbonate corner guards is difficult and Wallprotex advises not to use a powered saw when working with the product. Though not optimal for a clean cut, a hacksaw can be used if needed. If you need custom lengths, Wallprotex can cut in-line your custom length corner guard (please allow for manufacturing lead time).
